Tim O'Connor’s new 2004 Collection – available in America, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand – features Florence Broadhurst’s Swirls design from Signature Prints. Tim, who has used Florence Broadhurst designs before, loves them because they give his clothes a retro, vintage feel. “The designs are always great shapes and enable fantastic use of colour onto fabric” he says. Swirls was used to capture the ‘60s mood of this collection, named Belle De Jour after the 1967 film of the same name, directed by Luis Bunuel and starring Catherine Deneuve. Tim’s designs are aimed at self-assured women aged 25 and over who like mixing it up. They are classic with some bold-patterned prints. Swirls was printed in three different colour combinations: Royal blue and burnt orange on latte; chocolate and burnt orange on latte; black and coffee on dark brown. Signature Prints marketing director Helen Lennie says: “When I saw the finished range I was amazed with what Tim created with it. His styles and colours give the range a truly retro feel in a very glamorous kind of way! It is very ‘Florence’. And CEO David Lennie is excited too: “Creativity abounds in this part of the world – fashion designers like Tim O’Connor who were in nappies in the ‘60s are getting the mood, the balance and the whole retro feel just right and yet the whole end product finishes as so today! … Enough to make a tired old printer swing and sing old Beatles tunes all day...” Signature Prints and Tim O'Connor have worked together for four years now. In the past he has used Japanese Bamboo, Violets, Small Octagonal and Honeycomb by Florence Broadhurst. Signature Prints are very selective when it comes to working with fashion clients. Tim is one of the few whose vision and creativity matches theirs, and this is why the relationship is such a fruitful one for both parties.
